Research Senior Technician – Davis Heart & Lung Research Institute Position Description

Responsibilities

Assist and support scientific investigation in the Dorothy M. Davis Heart & Lung Research Institute.

Independently conduct assigned experiments using molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell culture, Northern and Western blotting.

Sort and process tissue and blood samples; test and evaluate current procedures.

Perform routine procedures on lab animals.

Record, consolidate, and assist with analysis of research results; summarize data for grant proposals and manuscripts.

Prepare research progress reports and assist principal investigator with publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts.

Conduct library research on requested topics through current literature.

Oversee and maintain accurate records of laboratory activities; assist in training junior staff, undergraduates, and graduate students on research methods and equipment operation.

Set up and operate laboratory equipment; monitor research supplies, inventory, and initiate procurement requests as needed.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree + 2 years of relevant experience, or bachelor’s degree + 0 years, or bachelor’s degree + 4 years of relevant experience.

Demonstrated experience with PCR, gel electrophoresis, cell culture, and related laboratory techniques.

Strong organizational and record‑keeping skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment.

Scheduled Hours: 40 per week Shift: Varying shifts
