Responsibilities Prepares sections of human tissues for microscopic examination and patient diagnosis using grossing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting techniques from surgical procedures.

Maintains laboratory equipment and tracks routine maintenance and quality controls.

Operates, cleans, and sterilizes laboratory equipment, glassware, instruments, and workstations.

Certifications and Licensures

HT: Histotechnician – Must be Histotechnician (HT) certified or eligible for BOC by ASCP, certified within 6 months of hire or transfer.

Required Education High School Diploma or GED.

Experience, Training and Skills Completion of a Histology program accredited by NAACLS or minimum of one year experience as a Histology Technician Trainee, competent in embedding, microtomy, grossing, special stains, and immunohistochemistry.

Knowledge of CLIA regulations, laboratory policies, procedures, equipment, and quality control.

Computer literacy: using computer programs and applications.

Laboratory proficiency: performing a full range of tests and operating instrumentation and equipment.

Communication: ability to listen, read, understand, follow instruction, and communicate clearly and concisely.

Physical and Mental Requirements Exposure to stressful situations, public contact, trauma, grief and death. Must be able to wear PPE including latex materials. Ability to move freely, sit/stand/walk for long periods, stooping, kneeling, crouching; occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.
