Respiratory Care Practitioner FT Nights – Carondelet Health Network Overview

A licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner is responsible for the performance of diagnostic testing and the administration of prescribed respiratory therapy procedures and medications and related life support measures to patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies, abnormalities, or diseases. The practitioner assesses patient condition, reviews medical history, documents progress and response to treatment, and applies research-based clinical practices. Communicates with the physician regarding patient status, clarifies orders, makes therapy recommendations, and recognizes contraindications. Collaborates with other licensed caregivers to support the interdisciplinary plan of care. Responsibilities

Perform diagnostic testing and the administration of prescribed respiratory therapy. Perform SVN Therapy and MDI Therapy on intubated and non-intubated patients. Perform Incentive Spirometry and documentation per facility guidelines. Perform chest physiotherapy by manual or mechanical means. Perform sputum induction and appropriate documentation. Perform arterial puncture and arterial line draws; perform arterial blood gas and co-oximetry analysis per facility with critical value notification. Perform bedside Pulmonary Function screening pre and post bronchodilator with data review and documentation. Administer routinely prescribed inhaled medications and substitutions; clarify pharmacy orders; complete medication administration records. Record MAR sign-off as appropriate; initiate and maintain non-invasive ventilation and mechanical ventilation per physician orders with documentation. Initiate and maintain transport ventilators with proper documentation; perform daily maintenance and QA per facility specifications. Maintain, stock, and clean respiratory care supplies and equipment; manage storage areas. Perform tracheal suctioning, operate and maintain closed suction systems; understand medical gas systems and zone valve locations. Follow infection control standards and adhere to bundle protocols (VAP, pressure ulcers, universal protocols, etc.). Document weaning parameters and ventilation parameters; be familiar with code cart locations and uses; provide appropriate oxygen therapy and aerosol therapy. Respond to emergency situations and document appropriately; provide rescue breathing as needed. Understand medication labeling and storage; assist with other department responsibilities as assigned. Understands the Incident Command System (HEICS); perform safety checks on ventilators and CPAP/BiPAP units. Complete department paperwork such as logs, schedules, and therapist worksheets. Qualifications

Education Required: Associate of Science in Respiratory Therapy Preferred: Bachelor of Science in related field Licensure Required: Respiratory Care Practitioner license for Arizona Certificates Required: Registered Respiratory Therapist or Registry-eligible; BLS CHVI Specific: PALS, ACLS within 6 months of hire and every two years Experience Required: Clinical experience including adult, pediatric, and infant med-surg and critical care therapeutics and diagnostics Preferred: One year recent experience in an acute care hospital Skills Required: Basic computer skills; strong verbal and written communication; proficient in all phases of care delivery for basic and advanced respiratory care (invasive and non-invasive) Preferred: Electronic documentation experience; ability to perform complete PFTs and bronchoscopy procedures Knowledge Required: Respiratory Care Practice Act; familiar with the scientific process as it relates to respiratory care Preferred: Familiar with performance improvement process Technology Required: Proficient with technology related to therapeutics and diagnostics (ventilators, monitors, gas analyzers, co-oximeters, pulmonary function screeners) Preferred: Proficient with complete pulmonary function analyzers, fiberoptic bronchoscopes, and neonate/pediatric care equipment Other Required: Ability to work flexible schedules including holidays and weekends Employment practices will not be influenced by an applicant’s or employee’s race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age, disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status or any other legally protected status.
