Position Overview
West Virginia University School of Medicine's Departments of Anesthesiology and Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry seek a Pain Psychologist qualified for appointment at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor rank. The successful candidate will practice in Morgantown, WV.
Responsibilities include clinical practice in pain psychology, primarily within the WVU Center for Integrative Pain Management; teaching and supervision of medical students, residents, and fellows; research activities (especially for Associate Professor or Professor rank); leading the behavioral unit of the CIPM; serving on the WVU Medicine Medical Staff Affairs Pain Committee; providing evaluations for opioid candidacy or implantable devices; and delivering evidence‑based group or individual treatment within the integrated pain center.
Qualifications: PhD or PsyD in clinical psychology from an APA/CPA‑accredited graduate program with an APA/CPA‑approved internship; immediate eligibility for licensure in West Virginia; for Associate Professor rank, demonstrated leadership, clinical and teaching excellence, and scholarly activity; for Professor rank, Board Certification (ABPP). All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.
The WVU Medicine Center for Integrative Pain Management offers a multidisciplinary approach to pain treatment, including behavioral health, clinical group and individual therapy, chiropractic, massage, acupuncture, nutrition, and physical movement services. Researchers at the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute are developing innovative clinical trials for non‑opioid pain treatments aligned with the center’s mission to combat the opioid crisis. WVU Anesthesiology hosts the largest anesthesia practice in the state and the only anesthesiology residency‑training program, with more than 150 credentialed clinicians. The Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry actively supports professional development with mentoring for clinical service enhancement, teaching improvement, and scholarship.
