Responsibilities
Harvest nursery stock, including taking inventory, grading plants, preparing trees and shrubs for digging, wrapping burlap, securing root balls.
Perform manual tasks such as hand digging ornamental evergreens and conifers up to 5-6', lifting, carrying nursery stock, and loading/unloading supplies.
Operate mechanized field work using power equipment (power shears, chain saws, high lift, forklift, tractors).
Plant seedlings or 'liners' by hand, clear fields, and remove cull stock, brush, and debris.
Apply herbicides, insecticides, and fertilizer; mix 35 pounds of fertilizer with a 4-ounce cup.
Shear conifers and evergreens, cut bud with proper taper and angle.
Assist in loading trucks, weighing product up to 60 pounds.
Carry, lift, and commute 60 pounds, lift to a 5-foot height, work bent positions, and perform repetitive movements.
Work in crews of 3-6 workers, maintain pace, and work Saturdays.
Follow safety rules, pesticide warnings, re-entry, and keep a safe work environment.
Qualifications Minimum 3 months prior experience working in a tree and shrub nursery, preferably including ball and burlap (B&B) field harvesting. Workers must be able to perform manual and mechanized activities with accuracy and efficiency.
