General Summary Perform direct patient cardiac diagnostic testing procedures with appropriate level of skill; in a timely and dependable manner consistent with current standards of care and departmental and/or hospital policy and procedure. Provide age‑specific care to patients of all ages. Serve as a professional resource to physicians, nursing staff and all other hospital staff.
Responsibilities
Accurately perform all echocardiogram studies ordered by physicians, including, but limited to; Transthoracic 2‑D, M‑Mode, Color‑flow Doppler, Transesophageal, Exercise stress and pharmacological echocardiography.
Perform IV contrast administration and agitated saline bubble studies.
Accurately perform other cardiac diagnostic studies as assigned, including but not limited to: EKG, Holter prep, monitoring and analysis and Cardiac stress tests.
Correctly utilizes mechanical devices to provide the best diagnostic information to cardiology physicians to include but not limited to: echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs, Holter monitors and computer analysis.
Accurately assess hospital information systems for scheduling, processing and correct charging of all studies.
Implement appropriate infection control practices and demonstrates a working knowledge of aseptic techniques and equipment disinfection.
Interacts with students from contracted colleges and universities, providing preceptorship and clinical guidance as per contracted agreements.
Demonstrates the ability to perform cardiac diagnostic tests following age specific guidelines and procedures, specifically with neonatal and pediatric patients.
All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Credential(s): Basic Life Support; Registered Cardiac Sonographer; Or RDCS through ARDMS
Experience: Required: Successful completion of certification program and/or two years hands‑on experience with echocardiography.
Preferred Education, Credential(s) and Experience
Education: Certificate Program Cardiovascular Sonography
Credential(s):
Experience: Preferred: Extensive experience in echocardiography studies in a hospital setting. Extensive experience in both pediatric and neonatal echocardiography.
