Summary of Job Duties The Research Veterinary Technician (RVT) will work closely with the DLAM veterinarians. This person will provide surgical assistance for UAMS and ACHRI. Responsibilities include organizing and maintaining sanitation of the surgical suites, assisting researchers, the veterinarian, and veterinary assistant during surgical procedures to include animal prep, anesthesia, monitoring during surgery, and drug administration. The RVT will perform daily health assessments and enrichment of surgical animals, communicate concerns to the veterinarian and investigators, and provide clinical assessment by making regular rounds and working with animal care technicians to identify clinical issues. The RVT will also assist the Assistant Director of Operations and Supervisor with animal husbandry support as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum:

Associate’s degree plus 2 years’ experience in animal research or a bachelor’s degree.

Preferred:

Licenses, certificates, or registration (e.g., CVT, ALAT).

Preferred:

Experience working in an animal research setting.
