RN – 7E Oncology Medical Unit
Full‑Time, 36 hrs/week . Shift: 7 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., every other weekend/holiday.
Location:
Summa Health System – Akron Campus.
Primary patient population:
This unit specializes in the care of adults with oncologic needs, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy administration, symptom management, complex care planning, hematologic health and general‑medical concerns.
Unit Size:
15‑bed unit.
Target Nurse‑to‑Patient Ratio:
1:5 to 1:6 (subject to change based on census numbers and patient care needs).
Highlights
$5/hr shift differential for nights; $1/hr for weekends
12‑month nurse residency program for new grads
Within 6 months of hire, nurses must obtain their chemotherapy competency
Summary Guided by knowledge of the basic principles of nursing based on the biological, physical, and psycho‑social sciences, utilizes judgment supported by evidence and nursing theory in the delivery of nursing care. Provides, coordinates and/or delegates nursing care and manages resources in the delivery of care for patients, the family of patients and the community, with the goal of attaining, maintaining and restoring optimum health.
Formal Education Required
Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Applicants with an Associate’s degree will be considered but are required to obtain a BSN within three (3) years of employment
Graduate of a program of professional nursing that is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio
Experience And Training Required
PRN RN’s must have at least one‑year recent experience in the area of practice.
One year of related RN experience is required for weekend option positions.
Additional related previous experience and/or preparation may be required for specialty units.
Other Skills, Competencies And Qualifications
Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination.
Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Corrected vision and hearing to a normal range.
Ability to work under stressful conditions or irregular hours.
Exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment.
Maintains current Basic Life Support certification; new nurses may be required to complete Advanced Cardiac Life Support within the first six months.
Population Specific Competency
Additional education or certifications may be required for specialty areas (e.g., PALS, NIH, Non‑Violet Crisis Intervention).
Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self‑respect, dignity, and diversity.
Level Of Physical Demands
Heavy: Exerts 50‑100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25‑50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10‑20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
