Summary
The Tooling Technician/Mold Maker is responsible for using proper preparation procedures regarding work to be done on molds. He or she will be disassembling, cleaning, repairing, reassembling, and preparing molds for storage or use. He or she will work under the direction of a tooling assistant supervisor or tooling person. This employee must be safety conscious at all times.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare molds for production under the direction of a lead tooling person or mold maker.
Disassemble molds to prepare them for cleaning and repair.
Clean molds by following approved methods. This may require the use of power equipment, hand tools, or chemicals.
Change inserts for molds as required.
Ensure that the correct insert is in the mold to meet the production schedule.
Ensure that the insert is oriented properly.
Prepare molds for storage by following approved methods.
Assist the mold makers as requested.
Perform basic process planning, set-up, and operation of common machine tools, including turning, milling, surface grinding, and polishing.
Know and follow all safety procedures for all machining operations and material handling.
Lift and position work using power assists such as hoists. Ensure that molds are positioned in a safe and secure manner.
When possible, modify or repair mold while in press.
Work to ensure modifications and repairs are done within production deadline.
Reassemble molds after repair work has been completed. Ensure molds are reassembled according to the correct method.
Learn to test electrical systems in the mold. Repair or replace defective components.
Learn to test hydraulic systems in the mold. Repair or replace defective components.
Perform basic machining and use measurement equipment correctly.
Drive a forklift to transport and store molds. Ensure all safety rules are followed at all times.
Check new molds when received from vendors. Complete appropriate documents and procedures.
Stay informed of new technology, methods, and materials within the field.
Support and comply with all Suncast safety policies, quality standards, and housekeeping methods at all times.

Experience working with, on, and around machine tools required. Formal shop training is a strong plus.
Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
Ability to communicate effectively and understand written installation instructions.
Basic computer skills are helpful. Experience working with Microsoft Outlook strongly preferred.
Physical Demands This is a physically active position in a manufacturing facility. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk within tool room and manufacturing areas, climb stairs or fixed ladders, stoop, kneel, effectively communicate with others, and use active listening skills. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to use power assists to lift heavy objects in a safe manner. Vision ability requirements for this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. This is a full-time position. Due to fluctuations in production schedules, this employee may be required to work additional hours, including weekends, to meet additional demands.
Anticipated Pay Range $20.40-$25.50 hourly
