Main Purpose of Job The main purpose of this position is to supervise and monitor the work performance of lower level Registered Nurse. The Community Health Nurse Supervisor provides direction, guidance, observations, and clinical oversight to lower level nursing staff and Family Support Workers who are licensed as Certified Nursing Assistants. The Community Health Nurse Supervisor must ensure that all nursing staff observes universal precautions in order to prevent contamination and spread of disease. At all times, the incumbent will provide customer service to both internal and external customers that meet or exceed the standard set by the Department. Conducts operations ethically; adheres to compliance requirements; provides discipline and structure that influences the staff awareness of and respect of operational controls.

Position Duties

Evaluates potential and current In Home Aide customers to determine their medical necessity for In Home Aide service.

Provides supervisory nursing guidance to Nursing Staff in In‑Home Aide Services.

Supervises, plans, schedules, assigns, reviews and monitors the work performance of staff Community Health Nurses.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.

Experience: None.

Notes

Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and one year of experience as a Registered Nurse for the required education.

Candidates may substitute two years of experience as a Registered Nurse for the required education.

Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classification or Nursing or Health Care Specialist specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year‑for‑year basis for the required education.

Desired or Preferred Qualifications

One year of experience providing quality care by interpreting and enforcing policies and procedures.

One year of supervisory experience in a nursing home or hospital setting.

One year of experience as a home health nurse.

Licenses, Registrations and Certifications

Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

Special Requirements Employees in this classification will be required to provide the facility with a telephone number at which they can be reached.

Examination Process The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position.
