Certified MOHS Technician (Histotechnician/Histotechnologist) - Dermatology

Overview The Kimberly and Eric J. Waldman Department of Dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is dedicated to delivering superior, comprehensive dermatologic care that exceeds patient expectations and advancing the science of dermatology through research and education.
The Certified MOHS Technician assists in the process of complex tissue removal and microscopic examination of skin cancer cells and performs extensive administrative duties involving medical record keeping, developing laboratory protocols, and following federal and state guidelines. The technician will assist the surgeon in all stages of surgery.
Responsibilities
Provide complex skilled surgical and medical support to the MOHS surgeon with patient care, comfort, safety, and confidentiality as primary concerns.
Conduct daily evaluation of tissue slide preparation to ensure quality compliance.
Assist in shaving and punching biopsies and excisions, suture removal, and wound care.
Assist in cosmetic procedures such as the administration of Botox, various fillers, laser treatments, and a variety of peels.
Prepare patients' charts, forms, instruments, and other equipment as needed for surgery and patient care.
Perform routine housekeeping duties and maintain sterile technique; keep rooms stocked with supplies and linens.
Room patients, take detailed patient history, and prepare the patient for surgical removal.
Perform other related duties.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited course in Histology or Pathology or supervised training by a registered histotechnologist required.
Minimum 3 years of experience in a surgical-based practice, including six (6) months of MOHS experience in tissue grossing and preparing frozen tissue sections.
Must be a member of the American Society for MOHS Surgery.
Compensation Salary range: $25.3151 - $40.9913 hourly. Actual salaries depend on experience, education, and operational need.
