Description
An Expanded Function Dental Assistant performs a variety of patient care, office and laboratory duties. These tasks require both interpersonal and technical skills. This position assists the dentist or dental hygienist during examinations and treatment of patients.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The position reports to the Director of Dental Operations. No staff report to this position.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & FUNCTIONS While living and demonstrating our Core Values, the Expanded Function Dental Assistant will:
Prepare patient, sterilize and disinfect instruments, set up instrument trays, prepare materials and assist dentist and dental hygienist during dental procedures
Take and record medical and dental histories and vital signs of patient
Expose dental diagnostic x-rays, Mount and Label Radiographs
Make preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting study casts. Pour, trim and polish study casts, fabricate custom impression trays from preliminary impressions, clean and polish removable appliances and fabricate temporary restorations
Assist dentist in management of medical and dental emergencies
Instruct patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs
Provide Pre and postoperative instructions prescribed by dentist
Place and Carve Restorations
Select and Manipulate gypsums and waxes
Perform Coronal polishing
Dental Charting
Record treatment information in patient records
Schedule appointments, prepare bills and receive payment for dental services
Complete insurance forms and maintain clerical records manually or using a computer
Apply protective coating of fluoride to teeth
Maintain Emergency Kit
Perform routine maintenance of dental equipment
Participate in community outreach programs
Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS

Buy in and experience working in the EOS® model (strongly preferred)
Mission-oriented; represents the enterprise in a professional manner while demonstrating organizational pride
High school diploma or equivalent
Radiologic certification by the PA State Board of Dentistry or National Radiology Certification by Dental Assisting National Board (DANB)
Minimum 3 years EFDA experience, public health a plus
EFDA State Certification required
Coronal Polishing Course Certification as required by State Board of Dentistry
DANB CDA National Certification preferred
Experience with dental health maintenance, use of dental technology, infection control, health promotion, performing diagnostic procedures, etc.
CPR Basic Life Support Certification
