We are looking for an energetic and knowledgeable nursing supervisor who can multi‑task and lead on every weekend shift as well as the 3 p.m. – 11 p.m. and 11 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. full‑time shifts (Monday through Friday).
Purpose of Your Job Position The primary purpose of your role is to supervise the day‑to‑day nursing activities of the facility during your tour of duty, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.
Delegation of Authority As RN Supervisor you will have administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary to carry out the duties assigned.
Administrative Functions
Assist the Director of Nursing Services in directing day‑to‑day nursing activities in accordance with regulations.
Develop, maintain, and update written policies and procedures.
Ensure reference materials at the nurses’ stations are current and recommend additional materials.
Maintain the Nursing Service Procedures Manual and ensure its compliance with practice.
Report to the Director on operations, policies, and staffing recommendations.
Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of care.
Ensure all nursing personnel comply with job descriptions and procedures.
Participate in and support the facility’s quality assurance program.
Assist in planning the nursing portion of residents’ discharge plans.
Manage incident reporting, medical forms, evaluations, and charting as required.
Provide support to the Director in salary, benefits, and training planning.
Committee Functions
Attend required committee meetings (Infection Control, Policy Advisory, etc.).
Prepare written and oral reports for committees.
Provide information to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee as requested.
Contribute to Care Plan Committee agendas and reviews.
Implement committee recommendations under the Director’s direction.
QAPI
Apply data collection, analysis, and performance improvement methods.
Collaborate with the quality committee and leadership to prioritize QAPI efforts.
Lead performance improvement projects and provide coaching.
Participate in multidisciplinary QAPI activities.
Stay current on performance improvement initiatives.
Personnel Functions
Ensure sufficient licensed nurses and assistants during your tour.
Develop work assignments and delegate authority to Charge Nurses.
Ensure all nursing assistants have credentialing and training.
Conduct daily rounds, monitor absenteeism, and enforce policies.
Review complaints, grievances, and disciplinary actions fairly.
Maintain a positive, calm environment and rapport across departments.
Assist with staffing, employee evaluations, and performance management.
Nursing Care Functions
Communicate admission details and ensure room readiness.
Conduct physician rounds and coordinate care planning.
Conduct daily resident assessments and monitor condition changes.
Ensure appropriate direct nursing care delivery.
Perform specimen collection and vital sign monitoring.
Manage medication administration, logging, and safety procedures.
Coordinate discharge planning and transportation.
Support residents and families through bereavement processes.
Staff Development
Plan, conduct, and schedule in‑service training for nursing staff.
Maintain an effective orientation program.
Provide leadership training for Charge Nurses.
Support training completion and continuing education requirements.
Safety and Sanitation
Assist in developing safety standards and training for exposure risks.
Ensure adequate PPE supply and training compliance.
Monitor equipment usage and safe disposal.
Adhere to infection control procedures and isolation precautions.
Report hazardous conditions and maintain a safe environment.
Equipment and Supply Functions
Recommend equipment and supply needs to the Director.
Maintain adequate stock levels of medications and supplies.
Participate in preventive maintenance and safety procedures.
Care Plan and Assessment Functions
Develop written assessments and care plans for residents.
Encourage resident participation in the plan.
Ensure staff review plans pre‑admission and during care.
Assist the Resident Assessment Coordinator with MDS updates.
Budget and Planning Functions
Monitor economic conditions and recommend nursing service adjustments.
Provide equipment and staffing recommendations.
Resident Rights
Maintain confidentiality and dignity in resident care.
Ensure privacy and a respectful environment.
Handle complaints, grievances, and abuse allegations appropriately.
Respect resident rights to refuse treatment per policy.
Working Conditions
Work in office and nursing service areas, often with frequent interruptions.
Communicate with medical staff, personnel, and agencies.
Work beyond normal hours, weekends, and holidays as required.
Be prepared for emergencies and hazardous exposures.
Maintain liaison with residents, families, and support departments.
Education Must possess a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university.
License Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
Experience
Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience in a hospital, long‑term care facility, or related setting.
Training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
Specific Requirements
Current, unencumbered, active RN license in Pennsylvania.
Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
Independent decision‑making ability.
Diplomacy with personnel, residents, families, and agencies.
Knowledge of nursing practices, laws, regulations, and guidelines.
Leadership, supervisory, and organizational skills.
Patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition.
