Registered Nurse - On Call Required
The Registered Nurse at North Mississippi Health Services Systems is responsible for providing safe, quality patient care using the nursing process, maintaining effective communication with the multidisciplinary team, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The role requires leadership skills in prioritizing, delegating, and evaluating work assignments, as well as effective problem‑solving abilities to respond to changing patient needs.
Clinical Practice
Uses the nursing process to provide safe, quality patient care and documents accordingly.
Works to ensure compliance with all NMHS policies and requirements as directed by the Nurse Manager and Educator.
Provides patient/family education and acts as a resource for existing staff and new employees.
Participates in the Preceptor class to ensure proper training of new employees.
Maintains communication with multidisciplinary team members to provide holistic care to the patient.
Attends daily huddles on each unit to ensure proper assignments and identify team members for the shift.
Projects a caring, friendly, and helpful image to patients and other customers.
Utilizes the patient’s communication board (whiteboard) to keep patients and families informed of name, date, goals, and procedures or tests for the day.
Complies with NMHS behavioral standards and regulatory/accrediting agency requirements.
Licenced by the board of Nursing for the state.
Qualifications Education
Associate's Degree in Registered Nursing (required).
Completion of RN orientation and unit‑specific checklist requirements.
Licenses and Certifications
RN – Registered Nurse – State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Maintain department requirements for continuing education and unit‑specific requirements to provide appropriate, age‑specific care.
Effective communication and teaching skills.
General knowledge of regulatory and accrediting standards.
Prioritize, delegate, and evaluate work assignments.
Anticipate resources needed.
Assimilate data and report appropriately.
Orient new employees to the unit and report progress to charge nurse or nurse manager.
Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills to all customers/co‑workers, patients, families, and physicians.
