Summary
Accurately fixes, embeds, cuts and stains tissue for Pathologist interpretation and diagnosis. Provides quality technical and customer service to all customers. Performs all duties and competent in all areas of a Histology technician.
Responsibilities
Provides quality technical and customer service to all customers in compliance with the expectations set by the organization.
Performs computer accessioning and proper specimen labeling, ensuring specimen integrity.
Assists Pathology Residents and Pathologists as needed in Frozen Section & Gross Room.
Performs routine Histology procedures necessary to prepare slides for examination by Pathologists, including embedding, cutting, mounting, and staining.
Performs special stains in accordance with quality standards.
Initiates work procedures and performs all quality control, instrument maintenance & documentation required by accrediting agencies.
Communicates effectively and appropriately with coworkers, pathology residents & pathologists to assure the quality & integrity of the service.
Maintains a safe environment for one's self and coworkers to comply with all regulatory agencies & the hospital's & laboratory's Safety Programs.
Assists in maintaining section's inventory to ensure proper levels of reagents, controls and disposables.
Teaches and trains new employees, students and Pathology Residents.
Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
Performs other duties as assigned not limited to non-complex biopsy grossing.
Performs IHC and/or grossing non-complex specimens.
Must have completed training papers, signed competency and be able to perform IHC or grossing of non-complex specimens.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Associate's LVL DGRE

3 years of job related experience
Preferred:
Histotechnologist Certification (HTL ASCP)
Bachelor's degree
Working Conditions
Manual: significant manual skills/motor coordination & finger dexterity
Occupational: Significant occupational risk
Physical Effort: Medium to Heavy effort, may exert up to 35 lbs. force
Physical Environment: Significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
