Mental Health Inpatient Registered Nurse
Responsibilities: Provide direct patient care on the Charleston VA Inpatient Psychiatric Unit12-hour shifts with alternating weekends based on patient care needs and clinical experienceFunctions independently to optimize patient safety, quality of care, and operational efficiency for adult and geriatric Veterans admitted to the Behavioral Health Recovery Unit (BHRU)Accompany and/or transport patients to appointments/procedures as necessaryCare for a population of male and female Veterans ranging in age from young adult, age 18 to the elderly age 65 and olderComprehensive mental health and medical assessments, management of psychiatric and medical emergencies, detoxification and withdrawal monitoring (including CIWA), insertion and maintenance of peripheral IV lines, patient transport to appointments, and coordination of care across the continuumCollaborates with an interdisciplinary team, delivers patient and family education, ensures accurate and timely documentation, and supports positive patient outcomes through discharge planning and transition of careThe position may require care of COVID-19 positive patients or persons under investigation in accordance with facility policies. Requirements:
At least two (2) years of experience in a mental health setting exclusive of agency assignments and must have worked within the last six (6) months in the above settingsA current license in at least one state, territory, or commonwealth in the US or the District of ColumbiaCurrent basic life support (BLS) certification by an American Health Association vendor $3,200 - $3,400 a week
