This is responsible professional work involving a variety of architectural design functions.
Nature Of Work
Anemployee in this class is responsible for tasks of considerable difficultyinvolving a variety of architectural assignments, which may include project planning,contract negotiations, preparing and revising architectural design plans andspecifications, and consultant and user department coordination. Under thedirection of the Contract Administration management team, the employee isrequired to exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in thepreparation and development of project descriptions and scopes, design criteriapackages, cost estimates, and preparation of preliminary and final designs,drawings, and specifications as needed. Also required is the coordination andreview of architectural designs, drawings, and specifications submitted byconsultants as well as supporting services during solicitations for assignedprojects. Work is reviewed through meetings, reports submitted, and performanceevaluations. Examples of Duties
Coordinates the development of project scopes, costestimates, and preliminary drawings for the construction or renovation ofmunicipally owned buildings and facilities. Develops preliminary conceptual architectural designsincluding design criteria packages for advertisements of various City projects.Preparation of architectural designs and incorporating suggested changes andadditions to meet functional requirements while staying within budgetlimitations. Oversees and reviews architectural plans and specificationsprepared by consultants and facilitates design review meetings. Coordinates the activities of technical personnel involvedin the preparation of architectural, mechanical, and electrical workingdrawings and technical specifications; reviews various sample submittals andshop drawings for assigned projects. Provides architectural expertise to coordinate the answeringof questions as to content of drawings and specifications during bidding andconstruction phases; support during the preparation of addenda and letters ofclarification to modify contract documents. Participates in maintaining project records, conductsstudies, researches records, and writes reports. Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Considerable knowledge of:
principles and practices of designing building structuresand facilities; municipal building codes, ordinances, rules, and regulations;architectural developments and information in the field of building design andconstruction.
Ability to:
coordinate and review the work of technicalpersonnel; plan and prepare completed architectural design plans andspecifications; analyze and review architectural design submittals and drawingsprepared by consultants; prepare and submit detailed, clear, and concisereports both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective workingrelationships with employees, officials, and the general public. Physical Requirements
Mostly sedentary, indoors, requires extended useof computer, typing and viewing monitor. Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering or related field with three (3) years in architectural design experience.Master's degree preferred. OR An equivalent combination of education (not less than possession of a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above. Licenses or Certifications
Registration as a professional architect in the State of Florida; or currently in the active process of obtaining registration. Must obtain within a year of employment. Possession of a valid drivers license required. Examination

Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
