The City of Aiken is accepting applications for a Human Resources Generalist to join our Human Resources department.
This position provides professional administrative and operational support to the Human Resources Director. Assists with employee onboarding, HR reporting, benefits administration, and the maintenance of HR systems and records. Supports compliance with applicable employment laws, policies, and procedures.
Coordinates pre-employment processes including conducting background checks, scheduling physicals, preparing employment and declination letters, and completing onboarding for new hires
Maintains electronic personnel files and ensures compliance with records retention requirements
Assists with monthly and annual HR reporting
Processes payroll changes effective each pay period, including setting up new employees in the payroll system, and works closely with the Finance staff to ensure all changes are accurate and implemented timely
Administers and supports various human resources plans, policies, and procedures in accordance with established guidelines
Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of personnel policies, departmental goals, and HR systems
Maintains the vacancy database for all departments; conducts annual job-to budget matching and updates records as positions are added or eliminated
Reviews procedures and maintains Human Resources Information reports and records
Responds to employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex or sensitive matters to appropriate HR staff
Provides support and guidance to employees regarding benefits and City policies
Other Responsibilities:
Knowledge of Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA); Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)
Assist in planning the Employee Awards Luncheon
Prepares monthly turnover report
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred)
One (1) to three (3) years relevant human resources or payroll-related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Valid state-issued driver's license in good standing
