How You’ll Contribute:
As the Accounting & Financial Reporting Manager, you will lead and develop a team of accounting and financial reporting professionals while ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial records. You will partner closely with Accounting, Financial Reporting, Treasury, IT, Policy Administration, and Actuarial teams to support statutory and GAAP reporting, audits, and process improvements. What You’ll Do:
Lead, coach, and develop a team of accounting and financial reporting professionals, fostering an inclusive, respectful, and high‑performing environment
Oversee the accuracy and completeness of accounting records and general ledger activity
Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation
Support quarterly statutory reporting and GAAP financials for life insurance entities and affiliates
Coordinate with internal partners to resolve reconciling items related to policy accounting, cash, expenses, claims, and accruals
Serve as a key liaison for internal and external audits, including state insurance examinations
Assist with month‑end close processes and preparation of financial statements and ad‑hoc reports
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, automation, and internal controls in collaboration with IT and business partners
Contribute to department and company goals by modeling EquiTrust’s core values and supporting cross‑functional initiatives
What You’ll Bring:
Education and Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
CPA (preferred)
FMLI or other relevant professional designation (preferred)
Experience:
Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial reporting
At least 5 years of experience in life and/or annuity insurance
Prior experience using accounting systems and financial reporting tools
Minimum of 2 years of people management experience (preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail
Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new systems and technologies
Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to professionalism, collaboration, and inclusion
Ability to adapt to change and contribute positively to continuous improvement efforts
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit for extended periods and use hands for fine manipulation
Occasional standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 20 lbs
Ability to communicate effectively and view computer screens for prolonged periods

Work Arrangements: Mostly Off‑Site
Travel Requirements: Occasional (5%-10% of the time)
Compensation and Pay Philosophy:
The pay range for this role is $114,837.00-$157,901.00. This reflects the expected compensation for the position at the time of posting. The final offer will be based on factors such as the candidate’s experience, qualifications, geographic location, and internal equity, and may be higher or lower than the posted range. The pay range is subject to change in the future in accordance with applicable laws. EquiTrust is committed to fair and competitive compensation that considers individual and organizational needs.
