Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Host Associate – Food Service.

In this role, the successful candidate under the direction of the Patient Services Management, the Host Associate position is a technical position operating within the Food and Nutrition Services Department. The Host Associate is responsible for improving the quality of care by creating an atmosphere of hospitality throughout the patient’s hospital stay.

Responsibilities

Remain available to patients at meal times to ensure patient satisfaction by making sure patients receive the correct order and quick trays.

Maintain a safe, clean and functional work environment.

Maintain a professional appearance and speak in a courteous manner using good customer service skills.

Attend training classes and meetings as directed.

Maintain patient confidentiality as required by NYULMC.

Perform any other duties as assigned by management.

Review patient census information, articulate the menu selections, and work as a liaison to Patient Services for meal set up.

Demonstrate knowledge of the organization’s Core Values of Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Diversity and Excellence, and incorporate them into the performance of duties.

Employ the principle of positive guest relations, maintaining a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all patients, co‑workers and multidisciplinary team members.

Consult with Nutritionist and Supervisor regarding each patient’s dietary needs and changes in patient status.

Inform supervisor of any special requests in patient dietary needs.

Enter patient meal preferences using Room Service Choice; menu preference information is entered using a handheld tablet.

Assist in assembling trays with selected menu items and in serving of hot food as needed.

Deliver meal trays in truck to patient care unit(s), to the patient’s bedside, retrieve soiled trays from the bedside and return food truck to the kitchen.

Keep menu tally and totals; insert new menus and pull discharges to ensure new patients receive meals in a timely manner and meals are not sent for discharged patients.

Check and restock floor supplies.

Answer phones in a prompt and courteous manner and record calls on the Diet Office log as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Some college and/or higher academic standing preferred. Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently; bilingual is a plus. Must have basic math, grammar, computer and keyboarding skills. Must have interpersonal skills and the ability to perform service recovery to effectively interact with patients, families, employees and staff. Ability to walk to assigned nursing units several times per day. Previous hospital Food Service menu processing is a plus. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications None.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $23.73 – $25.01 hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
