General Summary The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (CIS) provides direct patient care to Cath Lab patients and is accountable for the performance of duties and phases of Cath Lab procedures.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Demonstrates knowledge of all phases of cardiac cath lab procedures, including hemodynamic monitoring and electrocardiograph recognition.
Acts as first scrub assistant for all adult diagnostic and interventional cases (PTCA, stents, IVUS, Angiojet, cutting balloon, IABP, Rotablator, permanent pacemaker or defibrillator insertion).
Manages fluoroscopic equipment.
First scrub assistant for all diagnostic and therapeutic EP studies and utilizes all EP equipment.
Applies various radiographic injection techniques.
Operates hemodynamic recording and procedural record equipment, including ACT and oximeter devices.
Understands cardiac anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
Works in a multifunctional team, setting priorities.
Performs sheath removal and achieves hemostasis (manual and device).
Maintains supplies and equipment, tracks inventory and coordinates requisitions.
Supports regulatory tracking for implantable devices.
Collaborates with physicians and staff to meet equipment and supply needs.
Provides support and leadership to department operations.
Serves as resource person for staff regarding supplies and equipment and fosters collaboration.
Acts as liaison with Materials Management.
Education
High School diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a formalized ARRT, RCIS, LPN, RN or allied health program or one year practical experience in the health field.
Work Experience
Preferred: two years of experience in an interventional cardiac cath lab, with preference for experience in non‑cardiac, peripheral vascular angiography and intervention.
Certification / License
BLS certification required.
ACLS certification required.
