About the Role
Penn Color is seeking an Associate Color Specialist to join our innovative R&D team in Hatfield, PA. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with a technical or creative background who are interested in working hands‑on in a laboratory environment and supporting manufacturing efforts on a global scale.
In this role, you will contribute to the development, testing, and refinement of color and additive formulations for plastic materials. You’ll collaborate with cross‑functional teams, apply problem‑solving skills, and grow your expertise in color science, polymers, and plastics processing.
About Penn Color Penn Color develops and manufactures custom color and additive masterbatches, compounds, and dispersions for a wide range of industries, including packaging, building materials, and consumer goods. Our Hatfield R&D Center is the hub of innovation—where ideas become real‑world solutions and materials are engineered for performance, sustainability, and visual impact.
Key Responsibilities
Work safely and in compliance with ISO 9001 guidelines using various plastic extrusion techniques
Accurately weigh color formulations, prepare samples, evaluate color, and make adjustments
Learn and apply basic formulation techniques and color match to a balanced formula
Prepare laboratory samples and manage workflow to support project completion
Utilize software and databases such as Oracle, X-Rite, Datacolor, Uncountable, and other lab instrumentation systems
Apply basic formulation techniques and develop balanced color matches
Support root‑cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
Ability to drive a project through to completion and make independent decisions along the way
Collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams
Communicate project updates clearly
Participate in customer‑facing meetings as needed
Qualifications
High school diploma required; industry‑related training preferred
College degree in chemistry, engineering, architecture, visual arts, or a related field is a plus
1–3 years of relevant experience
Basic understanding of polymers, colorants, and additives
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Strong communication skills
Ability to see and differentiate color variation
