Direct Care Worker (Non-Meds)
Provide direct care to community residents, primarily for activities of daily living, housekeeping, laundry, and mealtime service. Assist with other duties assigned by the Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities
Assist residents in and out of bed and into a wheelchair according to procedure (may require another aide or a gait belt).
Assist residents in bathing.
Assist residents in dressing or undressing.
Assist residents to the bathroom and provide peri‑care as needed.
Take and record vital signs of residents according to the community schedule and policies.
Assist residents to the dining area for meals; may be required to assist with feeding of residents.
Strip bedding and replace with clean linens per schedule or as needed.
Assist in personal grooming of residents.
Turn residents as needed when designated on the care plan.
Clean bedpans and empty catheter bags.
Document and/or report information regarding residents as instructed; documentation must be completed before leaving the shift.
Maintain medication room in a clean and orderly manner.
Give shift report on resident status as required.
Provide housekeeping/cleaning services in resident areas and common areas as scheduled by the Executive Director.
Provide laundry and linen service; deliver all resident laundry as designated.
Perform minor maintenance and servicing on community equipment; inventory supplies.
Monitor compliance to all state and federal requirements (blood‑borne pathogens, hazardous materials, infection control, fire safety) and residents’ rights.
Be available to work rotating weekends and holidays.
Essential Physical Requirements
Regular worksite attendance.
Complete at least 12 hours of approved in‑service education (required by the community, Department of Human Services, and Department of Inspections and Appeals).
Complete Relias assignments on time.
Successfully complete skills check‑off with the RN annually.
Develop and maintain good working relationships with co‑workers and other departments.
Basic computer skills.
If required to operate a motor vehicle, complete the requirements in the Company’s Motor Vehicles policy.
Read, write, speak, and understand English.
Work beyond normal hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
Assist in the evacuation of residents during emergencies.
Perform essential position functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Use a transfer/gait belt or obtain assistance when lifting or carrying objects over 25 pounds; be aware of potential body movements during routine tasks.
Physical Movements:
Lift up to 10 lbs: Constantly.
Lift 11‑25 lbs: Constantly.
Lift 26‑50 lbs: Frequently.
Lift >50 lbs: Frequently.
Carry up to 10 lbs: Constantly.
Carry 11‑25 lbs: Occasionally.
Carry 26‑50 lbs: Occasionally.
Carry >50 lbs: Occasionally.
Reach above shoulder height: Frequently.
Reach at shoulder height: Constantly.
Reach below shoulder height: Constantly.
Push/Pull: Constantly.
Hand manipulation: Grasping and handling constantly; torquing and fingering occasionally.
Twisting, bending, crawling, squatting, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and balancing are all required.
Operate automobile and various games (if required).
Relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the community.
Use prosthetics or assistive devices as needed for hearing or sight.
