About The Role This position is located at the Columbus, MS Global Cellulose Fibers mill. As one of the largest softwood pulp producers in the world, this location produces bleached softwood pulp for use in paper and specialty products such as absorbent personal care products, pharmaceuticals and photographic‑based papers. This position reports to the Health, Safety & Environmental Manager and will:
Be responsible for environmental compliance for air, effluent, solid waste, and hazardous waste streams and systems of the Columbus Mill and Columbus Modified Fiber sites
Identify, assess, and recommend approaches to ensure the Mill maintains compliance and resolve potential non‑compliance in a timely and cost‑effective manner, engaging key stakeholders throughout
Provide leadership to a group of laboratory technicians and engineers through performance management and professional development
Align environmental strategies for the Mill to achieve company, business and mill objectives including sustainability goals
Provide support during development and implementation of regulatory compliance projects and programs
Promote and utilize employee engagement to achieve desired results in the environmental area
Interact with corporate leaders, regulatory agencies, and subject matter experts
Manage complex environmental permitting and regulatory tracking for the mill
Manage resources such as consultants and/or salaried staff as required to prepare accurate and timely compliance reports and permits
Investigate and identify root cause for environmental incidents including near misses
Manage the lab, which includes quality testing for the pulp dryer
Serve on weekend rotation team
About You: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, environmental sciences/management or related field
Eight plus (8+) years’ experience in a manufacturing environment and environmental field; forest products industry preferred
Experience with regulatory & electronic reporting systems (e.g., Title V, MACT, DMR) is preferred
Knowledgeable of emerging environmental regulations
Strong working knowledge of air regulations
Understanding of all other environmental areas: water/waste/chemical, etc.
Track record of success in working in a team environment
Capable of managing multiple concurrent tasks
Good verbal and written communication skills
Good computer skills in common applications, i.e., Microsoft Word and Excel
Strong written & verbal communication skills; presentation and training delivery skills
Ability to drive changes to achieve IP Vision 2030 Goals for EHS and sustainability
