Multi‑Line Extrusion Operator – 3rd Shift
Company : Judd Wire, Inc. (Sumitomo Electric Group) – Turners Falls, MA
Salary : $22.63 /hr (base) + $3.00 /hr shift differential (3rd shift)
Responsibilities
Set up tubing and semi‑pressure/pressure extrusion lines, including multi‑head/tandem lines and various printers.
Operate multi‑line extruders, running single or simultaneous extruders based on demand.
Prepare and mix chemicals to maintain stability in footage, length, wall thickness, die, and leader sizes.
Use the MIS system to schedule and consolidate shop orders for optimal production efficiency.
Adjust dies and leaders, temperatures, speeds, and feeds to meet product specifications.
Maintain clean and orderly work areas, ensuring proper cleaning of heads, screws, and barrels.
Operate marking and printing machines to apply identification numbers, stripes, or legends to extruded wire/cable.
Conduct visual and tactile inspections; take samples for quality checks.
Operate testing equipment to perform measurements such as concentricity, OD/ID, elongation, adhesion, and other required tests.
Monitor operations continuously and adjust water troughs, speeds, feeds, and other variables to maintain quality and quantity parameters.
Detect and report defective materials, improper compounding, equipment malfunctions, or unusual conditions to supervisors.
Prepare for a flexible schedule and required overtime as needed.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED and basic math skills.
At least 3 years of progressive manufacturing experience directly related to extrusion.
Team player who enjoys detailed work and is willing to learn.
Use judgment to plan, perform, and decide on set‑ups and operations of multi‑head/multi‑line extruders to ensure quality, quantity, and schedule compliance.
Moderate to heavy physical effort: frequent moving, lifting 50 + lbs., pushing and pulling large reels.
Ability to stand for extended periods and maintain continuous mental and visual attention to detail.
Capacity to tolerate noise, fumes, dust, and temperature variations in the work environment.
