Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clinical Perfusionist. In this role, the successful candidate will assess, plan and implement the patient care requirements and treatment necessary for extracorporeal services during the entire perioperative period.

Job Responsibilities

Patient Assessment

– Monitors physiological parameters for early identification of changes, recognizes medical emergencies and responds appropriately. Assesses patients based on age and other needs, performs arterial and venous blood gas studies, hematocrit, potassium, activated clotting time and communicates need for blood products. Reviews medical record before each procedure and records pertinent information on the perfusion record.

Care of Patients – Part 1

– Prepares the extracorporeal circuit, completes the bypass checklist, initiates and operates the heart/lung machine, and adjusts the system to accommodate changes in surgical technique. Provides extracorporeal services per departmental policy and ensures equipment and supplies meet patient needs.

Care of Patients – Part 2

– Utilizes safety devices on all procedures, remains committed to the assigned procedure, maintains awareness of procedural progress and is available for bypass duties. Provides backup when required and communicates with the primary perfusionist. Demonstrates pharmacology knowledge and verbalizes policies and procedures for patient treatments.

Infection Control

– Uses appropriate isolation principles, adheres to departmental policy, wears eye protection and gloves, maintains a blood‑free work environment, and removes blood from the work area promptly.

Environmental Care

– Sets up supplies for each cardiac case, organizes inventory, maintains daily stock, disposes of contaminated waste, labels medications, cleans equipment and reports abnormal findings.

Information Management

– Summarizes patient physiological status in the medical record, records time on bypass, cross clamp, ABG, ACT, temperature, ensures security of electronic entries and completes order entry per hospital policy.

Minimum Qualifications

BS in basic science, nursing, biomedical or bio‑clinical engineering or related field.

NYSOP Permit in Clinical Perfusion required.

Experience in caring for patients ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics.

Knowledge and operating skills of perfusion equipment for procedures such as cardiac surgery, liver transplantation, rapid infusion, intra‑aortic balloon pump, cell salvage, ventricular assist support and ECMO.

Strong interpersonal, data‑analysis, problem‑solving and outcomes‑management skills.

Required Licenses

Perfusionist Permit – NYS.

Preferred Qualifications

Membership in a professional organization desirable.

American Board of Certified Clinical Perfusionists designation or eligibility.

Salary Transparency Salary range for this role: $171,600.00 – $153,443.16 annually. Actual salaries depend on factors such as experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The range does not include bonuses, incentive, differential pay or other compensation.
