Schedule and Work Hours
Sunday, Monday, Thursday: 10pm-6am; Wednesday: 8am-6pm. 38 hours per week with three overnight shifts and one day shift.
Overview
The Counseling and Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) Department provides a continuum of essential services to the most vulnerable youth in our community, including two crisis nurseries, an emergency shelter, permanent and transitional housing, a food and clothing pantry, street outreach, and support for minor victims of commercial sexual exploitation.
Essential Functions and Example of Duties
- Administrative Responsibilities:
- Assist leadership team with oversight of Overnight Emergency Shelter Counselors (screening, hiring, orientation, professional development, mentoring).
- Provide individual and group supervision to overnight staff.
- Team with other RHY programs.
- Quality assurance for program and client.
- Consultation for program and client.
- Pursue professional development.
- Supervise daily/nightly program.
- Oversee overnight shelter schedule, approve PTO and arrange coverage.
- Direct Service Responsibilities:
- Ensure a respectful, cooperative environment.
- Maintain client confidentiality as per agency policies.
- Prevention/intervention of crisis and conflict resolution.
- Promote teamwork with daytime Emergency Shelter Counselors.
- Participate in individual and group supervision.
- Assist with data entry and maintenance of client files.
- Provide individual counseling and mentoring.
- Maintain facility and grounds.
- After-hours intake, assessment, information, and referral.
- Transport clients as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Candidates must possess knowledge of: Positive youth development; Counseling approaches and techniques; Adolescent development and issues; Residential services; Group facilitation and training methods; Community resources; Crisis prevention/intervention skills; Verbal and written communication; Time management; Multi-tasking; Social, recreational activities; Meal preparation, housekeeping and facility maintenance; Group and individual supervision techniques; Implementation and enforcement of agency policy and procedures; Office 365; Data collection, outcome measurement, and reporting.
- Mandatory: Valid NYS driver's license; Acceptable driving record; Regular access to motor vehicle; Automobile insurance meeting specified limits; Telephone.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a human services related field AND minimum 3 years of supervisory experience AND 2 years’ experience working with adolescents, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
