The incumbent of this position performs assigned tasks of increasing complexity in the networking projects group of the Information Services Division. These tasks include network support, specialized server maintenance, desktop support, helpdesk phone assistance, and field support, having department-wide and state-wide impact for the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism (DCRT).
The scope of the position is state-wide and supports seven different agencies, including the Office of State Parks, Office of Tourism, Office of State Museum, Office of State Library, Office of Lieutenant Governor, Office of Cultural Development, and Office of Secretary/ Management and Finance. The incumbent provides support to over 690 networked users, including well over 700 networked computers and printers, and advanced network equipment (i.e. routers, switches, wireless access points and servers) in administrative offices in the State Capitol Annex and at 63+ different locations state-wide including 22 remote State Parks, 17 remote State Historic Sites, 10 Tourism Welcome Centers, 10+ State Museum sites state-wide, 1 State Preservation Area, CODOFIL in Lafayette, Black Bear Golf Course in Delhi, and a number of temporary and satellite offices.
The position, working under direction from the network services supervisor, supports users on a highly complex and diverse Wide Area Network (WAN) with 70+ wired LANs/WLANs for department business use and 32+ Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) that provide public Wi‑Fi internet access to guests in 194 cabins, 1119 RV campsites, and 7 lodges at 22 state parks, and public Wi‑Fi internet access to visitors at 10 Tourism Welcome Centers as well as a separate security network for the Office of State Parks. The incumbent performs complex technical network setup, configuration, troubleshooting, and problem resolution on wired, wireless, and cellular internet LANs. This position reports to the Information Technology Technical Support Supervisor.
Qualifications
Three years of experience in information technology;
Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus one year of experience in information technology;
An associate's degree in information technology plus one year of experience in information technology;
A bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience in information technology;
A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in an information technology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, or business analytics field.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
NOTE: A certification in an approved area may be substituted for the education and/or experience requirements at the time of hire or promotion, provided the appointment is made from a Certificate of Eligibles.
Job Duties
Research new technical software and systems that can improve on the systems in place and create a more efficient work environment.
Performs some end‑user training and continually advises users regarding computer usage and security awareness training.
Coordinates, tests, and performs rollouts of new hardware and software systems, patches, and upgrades not available over the automated update service, directs other support staff to assist in the most productive manner.
Evaluates and resolves user issues in a timely manner.
Consults and assists the Network Admin and Engineer in maintaining the DCRT network by troubleshooting network infrastructure, server, workstation, and software issues.
Performs installation, setup, updates/patches, and ongoing maintenance of DCRT extensive, complex enterprise network (LAN, WAN, & WLANS).
Coordinates the creation of user profiles, domain assignments, email, and Outlook set‑up and configuration with the network administrator.
Resolves network problems, including physical installation, runs patch cables to switches, routers, and/or ISP demarcs, diagnoses and corrects wireless, computer, and printer issues while onsite.
Performs other duties as assigned.
