The Louisiana State Museum’s collections and educational programs stimulate awareness and appreciation of our state’s rich and diverse history and culture.
Key Responsibilities
Primary point of contact for the administrative office, managing the museum’s phone lines.
Reception duties and key financial and administrative support tasks.
Required Competencies

– Ability to ensure resources such as time, money, and people are utilized appropriately to result in maximum business value.
Experience Two years of experience in administrative services.
Every 15 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as six months of experience.
Job Duties
Experience in administrative, reception, or front‑office support roles, preferably within a museum, cultural institution, or government environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) with the ability to quickly learn new software systems, including Sage or similar accounting platforms.
Demonstrated knowledge of accounting functions such as accounts payable, invoice posting, check processing, and financial record maintenance.
Experience performing bank and general ledger reconciliations with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent organizational, time‑management, and multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize work independently and collaboratively.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including professional customer service, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain confidentiality of financial and personnel information.
Position Specific Details
Appointment Type : Classified WAE position, limited to 1,245 working hours in a 12‑month period.
Work Schedule : Part‑time; may require evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
Location : New Orleans, LA.
