Emission Certification & Compliance Test Operations Manager
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI)’s Regulation & Certification Department is currently seeking a Certification and Compliance Manager for the emission test team at the Superior Township facility in Michigan, just east of Ann Arbor.
The test team supports Hyundai and Kia vehicles in meeting federal, state, and local environmental and emissions standards through certification and in‑use testing.
What You Will Do
Manage emissions and fuel‑economy testing for the Certification and Compliance Team.
Lead the In‑Use Procurement Team and oversee procurement of Hyundai/Genesis/Kia owner vehicles for in‑use verification, confirmatory and investigative programs.
Plan, monitor, and manage the team’s budgets.
Develop, maintain, and continuously improve test processes to ensure compliance with EPA and CARB testing requirements.
Analyze test results and other data from certification, in‑use compliance, fleet emissions durability, PEMS, emission investigations, and coast‑down testing.
Set annual goals for each team member and conduct performance reviews.
Create and present technical reports and support additional projects as assigned.
Communicate effectively with upper management and resolve conflicts between test requestors and entities.
Travel up to 15% of the time domestically and internationally, if required.
Qualifications and Requirements
Effective communication with upper management, executive staff, and peers.
In‑depth knowledge of automotive certification testing and engineering principles.
Strong understanding of vehicle test and emission regulations, including CFR 40 Parts 86, 600, and 1066, and emerging rules such as Tier 4 Multiplollutant and ACC2.
Knowledge of HEV/PHEV/BEV powertrains and engine management systems.
Experience with ETAS (INCA) and/or CAN DB tools is beneficial.
High integrity, confidentiality, and ethical behavior.
Adaptability to rapidly changing business requirements.
Impact

In‑Use procurement practices.
Familiarity with CFR and CCR regulations.
Knowledge of 1066 and Tier 4/LEV 4 standards.
Emission test report quality‑assurance skills.
What You Will Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Automotive, or Mechanical Engineering.
Leadership experience managing emission test projects and customer service.
5+ years in U.S. emission certification or compliance testing.
3+ years of in‑use (IUVP) testing experience.
Experience with PEMS/RDE and coast‑down testing.
