Main Purpose Of Job Micro Lab Technician performs a variety of quality control tests/inspection and/or standard microbiological, chemical, physical or sensory testing on raw materials, semi‑finished products and finished products at various stages of the production process to ensure compliance with quality standards.

Works closely with the Quality Team and production team to help identify, solve and prevent problems affecting quality and food safety.

Employees shall lead by example compliance to required GMP, GLP, quality and food safety requirements.

Escalate quality or food safety findings or incidents to management.

Supports improvement initiatives.

Coach and train line operators in attaining quality standards.

Activities

Comply and execute the company Quality Policy on all required Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), quality and food safety requirements.

Ensures that a high quality of products, services, housekeeping, and hygiene standards are maintained and improved in plant to “ready to eat” quality standards are met.

Escalate quality or food safety findings or incidents to management. Communication of information to peers, cross‑functional team and management.

Supports quality Improvement initiatives (e.g. first time right, product defect reduction) within the factory.

Perform rapid microbiology test methods and identify the bacteria (Coliform, SPC, Yeast & Molds. E‑coli) for raw materials, semi‑finished products and finished products.

Record data in Quality system such as JDE.

Sensory, microbiology and chemical testing of raw materials, semi‑finished and finished products and releasing them in the system.

Place "Out of specification" material and/or product on quality hold physically and in JDE system. Communicate quality holds with supervisors and Quality Daily meetings.

Monitoring and update of tempering and thawing process of raw materials.

Release of ice cream mix based on mix storage temperature and time.

Perform Internal Air monitoring microbiological testing.

Calibrate and utilize lab equipment such as pH meter, moisture analyzers, scales, etc. in accordance to the ICP (internal control plan) and regulatory standards.

Support the execution of GMPs throughout the manufacturing plant and follow safety rules and procedures.

Any microbiological deviation leads the investigation, work with production to find clear root cause and corrective actions. Support root cause analysis investigations and suggest appropriate corrective actions.

Perform P-test for microbiological and chemistry two times a year.

Perform CIP line inspections as needed. CIP line inspections include visual verification, micro swabs and ATP swabs.

Good Laboratory Practice: Maintain knowledge and following all GLP in the laboratory. Practicing safe working place and reporting out any unsafe behavior through proactive near miss. Maintaining knowledge of biohazard and biosecurity as part of GLP and the factory procedure. Perform all routine and non‑routine task with highest quality and integrity.

Calibration program: track and manage thermometers, probes, analytical equipment such as balance and ph meter. Ensure all analytical equipment is monitored and tracked with all corrective action. Organize a schedule of all calibration and record keeping all COA.

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum High School Diploma.

Experience in Micro lab.

Work Environment

Cold Temperatures: Parts of the facility, such as storage and production areas, may be kept at low temperatures.

Requires use of cold‑protective PPE.

May involve standing, lifting, and walking in refrigerated zones for extended periods.

Fast‑Paced: Workers often operate under strict timelines to meet production quotas.

High‑speed manufacturing floor with frequent movement, line assignment changes, and tight production timelines.

Standing for Long Hours: Many roles require prolonged standing and repetitive tasks.

Repetitive hand and arm movements required.

Must be able to stand for hours with frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.

Food Safety Regulations: Employees must follow hygiene and safety guidelines, including wearing protective gear (gloves, hairnets, etc.).

Team‑Oriented: Workers collaborate to ensure smooth production and packaging.

The position involves frequent exposure to nuts and other potential allergens.

Compensation The pay scale for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The pay range for prospective employees in this role is $57,000 per year, with opportunities for overtime, shift differential, cold premium pay and annual bonuses (variable depending on company performance).
