Job Description
The Mobile Diesel and Trailer Technician Level II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Technician II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr. Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. The Diesel Technician II continues to develop advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques and complies with all company policies while achieving high performance metrics.
DUTIES
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
Minor adjustment and repairs on truck equipment, including but not limited to electrical, brake, cooling, starters/alternators, fans, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment (electrical, brake, cooling, AC, fans, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials).
Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using handheld computers and pressure gauges.
Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
Identify problems, evaluate information and generate alternatives using sound judgment.
Independently manage parts inventory and equipment provided on company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and pre/post‑trip inspections.
Work with clients to assess needs and resolve problems.
Manage concurrent tasks and prioritize work activities.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
Document work using company standards; upload pictures and findings on Repair Orders via iOS device and TRAIT application.
Complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
Work independently and manage own daily schedule.
Maintain high productivity and meet standard repair times.
Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed.
Communicate with management and support via email or phone for approvals and updates.
Perform work in compliance with safety, health and environmental policies, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
Maintain company‑issued service truck and conduct safety checks and inspections.
REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform job duties.
Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
Must pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical or submit a valid DOT medical card with more than 4 months remaining.
At least 21 years old and hold a valid driver’s license; must maintain a Driver Qualification File.
Safe driver required.
