Animal Research Lab Technician Location:

Clemson, SC

Job Summary:

Provides animal research support, animal health care, and facilities and equipment maintenance for the Clemson University animal research and teaching programs. Performs technical services related to animal research and complies with animal welfare regulations, institutional policies, and guidelines.

Job Duties

45% – Atomic Care and Husbandry: Daily care of laboratory research animals, including feeding, watering, observations, and detailed record keeping. Assist in developing species‑specific SOPs for animal care.

40% – Facility and Equipment Maintenance: Clean and sanitize caging, equipment, animal rooms, corridors, and support areas; maintain throughput of caging in the cage wash area; assist in preventive maintenance and SOP development for equipment operation and cleaning.

15% – Technical Research Support: Provide technical support for specific procedures (injections, blood withdrawals, tissue collections, etc.) as outlined in approved animal use protocols.

Minimum Requirements

High School or equivalent; experience in agricultural research or animal care directly related to the area of employment.

Associate degree in animal health technology or a related agriculture discipline may substitute for the required work experience.

Work experience: 1+ year.

Preferred Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Animal Husbandry, Biological Sciences, Agriculture, or related field.

Work experience: 2+ years in animal husbandry, agriculture, or related field.

Responsibilities

Fundamental job knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures related to animal research.

Physical Requirements

Work Schedule Standard hours: 37.5 hours per week.

Compensation Information Expected salary range: $31,826.00 – $38,000.00. Salary is dependent upon factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and performance, in accordance with Clemson’s compensation guidelines.

Essential Personnel Level Essential Level 2 employee. Required to maintain/resume essential support functions, deliver direct care services, and/or provide recovery support before normal operations resume. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on‑call.
