The Athletic Director (AD) leads the athletic department, supporting the college’s overall objectives and promoting student‑athlete academic excellence. As part of the college’s management team, the AD develops new initiatives, promotes equity and inclusion, and reports to the Vice President of Student Affairs. Essential Duties
Recruit, hire, and manage the administrative team. Supervise coaches and support staff involved in intercollegiate athletic programs. Oversee strategic planning, budgeting, campus and community relations, and coach recruitment and retention. Manage academic progress of student‑athletes, maintain eligibility records, and coordinate reports. Ensure accurate completion of paperwork and monitor academic progress of athletes. Order supplies and equipment, schedule practices and games, and host parents and orientations. Provide oversight for athletic facilities, rental contracts, and external clients. Run the athletic office, ensuring quality service and compliance with college, divisional, and departmental policies. Maintain eligibility files in compliance with NJCAA, NCAA, and NAIA regulations; coordinate pre‑participation physicals and compliance paperwork. Recruit student‑athletes and attend recruiting events with RVCC recruiters. Manage and supervise all athletic employees; evaluate performance and support professional development. Ensure compliance with federal, state, institutional, and NJCAA rules, including Title IX coordination with the Director of Title IX. Monitor academic progress, study halls, and class attendance in coordination with athletic staff. Direct external communications (newsletters, website, social media, live streaming) to promote the RV Athletic brand. Build relationships with high‑school coaches, guidance counselors, and athletic directors for recruiting and retention. Develop and oversee a comprehensive fundraising program to support the intercollegiate athletics program. Implement strategies to improve conference and region branding and recognition. Promote community service engagement for athletic teams. Collaborate with Student Affairs and campus student leaders to enhance community engagement and attendance at home events. Act as liaison between student‑athletes, faculty, and advising‑counseling services. Serve as point of contact for prospective student‑athletes and for four‑year colleges to assist student‑athletes in advancing to the next level. Participate actively in the governance of the Garden State Athletic Conference and Region XIX of the NJCAA. Coordinate athletic trainers and referees for games. Perform other duties as assigned. Master’s degree in physical education, athletic administration, or a related field. Five or more years of experience in intercollegiate athletics with progressively responsible professional positions. Administrative experience in athletics, including budget management, development, staff supervision, compliance, and facilities management. Broad knowledge of intercollegiate athletics and appreciation for the relationship between academics and athletics. Broad knowledge of NJCAA and NCAA rules and regulations for game administration, eligibility, and the student‑athlete transfer process. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion evidenced in professional work, development, and/or service. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrated leadership and administrative skills. Preferred Qualifications
Five or more years of intercollegiate or professional head coaching experience. Experience working within a community college athletics department. Additional Information
Raritan Valley Community College is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XIX and the Garden State Athletic Conference. RVCC has been represented at the regional and national levels in many sports, enabling students to compete for athletic scholarships at four‑year colleges and universities. RVCC currently offers multiple athletic programs at the NJCAA DII and DIII levels, including men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and softball (DII scholarships), and men’s & women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, and golf (non‑scholarship DIII).
