Position Overview Salary range: $55,000 at Step 1 or $58,600 at Step 2.

This position will aid in studies of environmental air pollutants that affect immune responses in vitro and in vivo systems. The role includes carrying out molecular biology and biochemistry research at the Center for Health & the Environment under the direction of Dr. Chris Vogel.

Responsibilities

RNA isolation, PCR analysis, and Western blot techniques.

Preparing figures of evaluated data with Excel.

Running statistics and comparing expression levels of control and treated samples.

Maintaining protocols, preparing tables and references, and assisting with manuscript preparation.

Mentoring undergraduates and junior researchers on complementary topics.

Working with cell culture, immunological methods, preparation of histological tissue samples, staining, and immunohistochemistry (IHC) (preferred).

Actively publishing research, designing future studies, reviewing journal articles, and participating in study design and proposal writing.

Presenting research results at lab meetings and journal club.

Professional Competence & Activity 5% of time dedicated to presenting research at lab meetings and journal club.

University & Public Service 5% of time devoted to mentoring undergraduates and assisting in laboratory training.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in biology, environmental studies, or related field with laboratory research experience.

Current driver’s license.

Experience in team‑based work requiring communication and decision‑making.

Knowledge of basic microscopy techniques.

Knowledge of experimental design and statistical analysis.

Knowledge of biology and biochemistry.

Ability to work independently and remain focused during laboratory procedures.

Ability to bend, squat, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional skills in cell culture, immunological methods, and histological tissue preparation, staining, and IHC.

Experience working independently and focusing for long periods in the lab.

Experience with data analysis and technical writing.

Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, Access, ArcGIS, and R software.

Statistical knowledge.
