About the Position
As an Assessment Specialist at Mercy Behavioral Health Hospital, you will receive inquiry calls and assist callers with scheduling a face‑to‑face, phone, or tele‑assessment. You will triage individuals based on safety risk, assess or ensure assessment by a qualified mental health professional, and screen for medical and behavioral emergency conditions. You will perform comprehensive assessments for patients seeking treatment for substance abuse, dual diagnosis, or psychiatric or emotional disorders; coordinate with the clinical team and on‑call physician to ensure needs are met at the facility or in the community. You will interpret treatment plans to patients and families and complete the administrative processes of admission and pre‑certification of care with external payers.
In addition, you will administer nursing care to ill or injured persons, coordinate and deliver quality general and psychiatric nursing care to patients hospitalized for treatment of substance abuse, dual diagnosis, or psychiatric or emotional disorders, and ensure safety and well‑being for each patient. You will follow medical orders and treatment plans, and advocate for patients at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate response to a request for services, including the initial response, assessment, referral process, designation of appropriate level of care, admission into services, and appropriate follow‑up activity.
Conduct initial evaluation, initiate assessment, document patient symptomology and needs, and provide information to MD for LOC determination.
Demonstrate excellent customer service skills in assisting patients, physicians, visitors, and coworkers promptly and courteously.
Possess clear knowledge of Emergency Detention paperwork and processes and EMTALA.
Maintain all pre‑admission and admission paperwork with accuracy and complete pre‑certification with insurance companies.
Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing or social work.
Active RN or LSW licensure.
Previous experience in a behavioral health hospital highly preferred.
