O&M Budget Analyst – Birmingham
Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) , headquartered in Birmingham, AL, operates Southern Company’s eight nuclear reactors across Georgia and Alabama. This role is part of a team responsible for the online O&M budget process, monthly analysis and reporting, and for interacting regularly with management on budgeting, reporting and financial issues.
Responsibilities
Compile and coordinate the annual O&M budget, ensuring alignment with SNC’s goals.
Compile and report monthly actual‑to‑projection analysis and end‑of‑year projections, and perform monthly close‑out duties.
Communicate budgets, projections, initiatives and results to management effectively.
Interact regularly with management and department leads regarding budget and financial issues, emphasizing sound internal controls.
Education & Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field (required).
CPA, MBA or advanced degree in a related field (preferred).
Experience
Minimum 1 year of experience in financial/accounting disciplines including planning, analysis, and budgeting.
3+ years of experience preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Experience in operational accounting, budgeting and cost control (nuclear generation, transmission, distribution, manufacturing is a plus).
Familiarity with utility accounting and FERC requirements (preferred).
Understanding of Southern Company’s business model and Alabama Power/Georgia Power ratemaking mechanisms (a plus).
Strong analytical, communication, problem‑solving and organizational skills.
