DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This is entry‑level professional social service work in a County Children & Youth Services Agency. Employees participate in formal and informal training programs that provide basic knowledge for helping children and families achieve a normal home life. The role involves understanding and accepting the needs and rights of others and working with children and adults who are physically challenged, mentally disabled, emotionally troubled, or economically disadvantaged.

Responsibilities include learning about the network of available community resources, instructing clients on how to complete resource forms, guiding clients through the process, and working as a team to achieve acceptable results. Applicants must apply relevant laws, regulations, and policies to help children and families reach an acceptable resolution.

Work Schedule and Additional Information

Full‑time employment.

Work hours: 8:00 AM–4:30 PM or 8:30 AM–5:00 PM, Monday–Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.

On‑call work after hours and on weekends.

No telework option.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements

Two years as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college‑level coursework, including 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or related social sciences; or

A bachelor’s degree with 12 college credits in the same fields; or

Equivalent combination of experience and training with 12 college credits and one year as a County Social Services Aide 3 or similar paraprofessional case‑management position.

Applicants within two months of graduating may be considered as having met the educational requirements.

Other Requirements

PA residency requirement is currently waived.

You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements

Pass a background investigation.

This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.

Conditional offers require satisfactory criminal history reports, including PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
