Job Summary Under the general direction of the Dispatcher-Clerk Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for receiving highway condition information and disseminating that information to internal and external customers, and the public.

Responsibilities

Receive and record highway condition information.

Disseminate information to internal and external customers and the public.

Perform clerical work and maintain accurate records.

Communicate effectively with customers and in emergencies.

Operate telecommunication equipment such as teletypewriters and telephone.

Minimum Requirements Minimum requirements for this position are detailed in the Class Specification. Candidates must meet eligibility requirements and be listed on the state examination list or meet other eligibility criteria.

Desirable Qualifications

Knowledge of California and adjoining states geography, major highways, counties, and principal cities.

Knowledge of department organization and lines of communication.

Typing speed of at least 40 words per minute.

Ability to read maps quickly and accurately.

Effective communication skills, clear concise speaking, and the ability to operate a teletypewriter.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, and office equipment such as telephone, computer, calculator, copy machine, fax, and scanner.

Strong teamwork and professional courtesy in all interactions.

Ability to analyze situations accurately and take effective action.

Must pass a drug screening test.
