WSP USA is currently searching for a
Central Region Business Development Director
for our
US Transportation and Infrastructure Business Line .
WSP’s Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) business line is dedicated to transforming the business of infrastructure across advisory and planning, property and buildings, water and environment, and energy markets. We guide our clients through some of their most complex infrastructure challenges by providing a unique combination of planning and engineering principles, technology, communication and management consulting skills.
The
Central Region Development Director
is responsible for driving top‑line growth as One WSP across the business and with our counterparts within the Advisory and Planning, Earth & Environment, Property & Buildings, Power & Energy, and Federal end‑markets. The Development Director role is strategic, client‑focused, and market‑facing. The position acts as the primary representative for the T&I business line focused on growth, actively promoting the company’s brand, values, and mission to clients, stakeholders, communities, and partners.
Our ideal candidate is familiar with T&I’s capabilities with strong connections to and knowledge about WSP’s clients in the infrastructure industry in order to expand and grow our services across all end‑markets. The candidate also has connections with both private and public clients and can articulate the growth potential and opportunities we provide. This candidate can operate out of any of our offices in the Central Region.
Responsibilities
Be responsible for developing and executing Transportation & Infrastructure’s business growth strategy
Bring a deep understanding of infrastructure development and support clients early and throughout the development lifecycle
Partner to develop and implement T&I’s strategic plan
Identify, qualify and engage in key pursuits and project opportunities
Support development of an active pipeline through market research, networking and referrals
Assist in identifying and recruiting key personnel necessary to win and deliver top opportunities
Establish and maintain relationships with key client decision-makers including conducting client meetings to understand project needs, identify opportunities and gather client feedback for T&I services
Track sales pipeline, forecast revenue, and monitor performance against business development goals
Work with our Global Client Program to develop specific tactical plans for extending WSP services for key clients across all business lines including serving as a catalyst for client coordination and cross‑selling efforts in collaboration with regional leaders and client account leaders.
Partner with leadership to develop and monitor business development budgets, civic and professional organization participation, and coaching client engagement teams
Perform as the champion and coordinator of T&I’s relationships with clients
Provide personal engagement and leadership to our major pursuit strategies, proposals, and interview preparations
Deliver firm‑wide resources to the key initiatives by building and maintaining strong relationships across all of WSP’s business lines, end markets, and regions
Partner with the Strategic Growth Team (SGT), who is responsible for the execution of T&I’s marketing and sales needs
Collaborate with the Regional Executives and Government Affairs Teams to supervise T&I's civic engagement and Top Opportunities programs
Represent T&I through involvement in high‑impact client and industry events
Foster partnerships in the industry to inform T&I's choices on building teams for the key pursuits
Partner with Corporate Communications leadership in developing and implementing external brand and communications strategies to ensure WSP is seen as trusted, thought leaders in our industry and ensure clients are aware of the firm’s initiatives, projects, and people.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, sciences, business, finance, planning, public policy, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Minimum 15 years of infrastructure consulting including at least five years of successful experience in developing client relationships, business development and management role for a national business.
Specific expertise in the infrastructure industry and established relationships with teaming partners and key client decision makers.
Proven track record in business development, with experience growing a business in generating leads and expanding market presence in the public and private sectors.
Demonstrated experience of leadership, personal accountability; persistent, and goal‑oriented; able to effectively network across the organization at all levels (senior executive to early graduate).
Ability to innovate and re‑think the conventional approach to client and employee engagement.
Strong influencing skills: ability to inform, define, and influence decision‑makers based on facts and logic; ability to build consensus and rapidly resolve conflict in the interest of broader WSP.
Commitment to internal and external client service.
Experience in leading and winning major strategic pursuits.
Excellent communication skills (presenting and writing).
Organized, self‑starter with a strong entrepreneurial spirit.
Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree is preferred.
Experience with managing profit and loss and metrics.
Strategic planning experience.

Compensation Expected Salary (all locations): $203,400 – $341,110. WSP USA reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range as appropriate to the successful applicant’s qualifications.
