Posting Summary: The Department of Psychiatry at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) seeks Research‑Track faculty at any rank to expand our research portfolio. Research‑Track faculty are matched to a specific research group/lab and work to support the research initiatives of that group/lab under supervision of the principal investigator and/or center director. The Department of Psychiatry has a very robust research portfolio, with over $25 million in awards in the last fiscal year. Department research is generally conducted among the Rutgers Addiction Research Center (https://addiction.rutgers.edu/), the Center for Psychiatric Health & Genomics (https://cphg.rutgers.edu/), the Division of Addiction Psychiatry (https://rwjms.rutgers.edu/department/psychiatry/divisions), the Center for Advanced Human Brain Imaging Research (https://sites.rutgers.edu/cahbir/), and individual labs including basic science and animal models.
Research‑Track faculty will perform research activities on behalf of the Department of Psychiatry in strategic growth areas, function collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, and maintain effective communication with staff and administration. Research‑Track faculty are expected to have developed sufficient expertise and skills to contribute immediately to the research initiatives of the program they join with no expectation of significant training. Research‑Track faculty may be asked to contribute to, and/or submit as principal investigators, applications for extramural funding in their research area of expertise to financially support their position. The Research‑Track faculty position is contingent upon continued funding availability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs research activities as directed by their faculty supervisor/principal investigator (PI).
Leads research analyses under the supervision of the PI.
In consultation with the PI, designs studies with high rigor, using best practices.
Publishes results in peer‑reviewed journals, presents at national and international conferences, and contributes to the writing of grants.
If supported and/or directed by the faculty supervisor, submits application(s) as a principal investigator for extramural funding to conduct novel research within the scope of the research group’s/lab’s research interests, and which includes salary support for the incumbent’s (Research‑Track faculty member’s) position.
Assists with research compliance activities, including communications with funders (e.g., NIH), maintaining up‑to‑date research training and certifications, IRB or IACUC applications, and other activities.
Manages communication with external collaborators.
Documents research activities, maintains a database of up‑to‑date research protocols, and manages and organizes large datasets that have been generated in the service of research projects.
Supervises undergraduates, technicians, graduate students and post‑doctoral fellows.
Performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Education and Experience: The successful candidate will have a Masters Degree, PhD and/or MD in a relevant field with related expertise. The successful candidate must demonstrate accomplishments consistent with readiness for a Research‑Track faculty position.
