Provide direct and indirect patient care in the emergency care setting under the supervision of a registered nurse. Effectively communicate changes in patient status, symptoms, and results of diagnostic tests to appropriate individuals. Respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatments of patients. General Duties

Support your manager and administration in the implementation of the hospital’s mission, vision, and overall goals. Actively participate as a member of your department by providing excellent customer service, identifying areas for improvement and implementing operational changes. Assist your department in providing efficient and effective patient care by actively participating in the orientation process, department meetings, educational events, personal performance evaluations, and focused counseling opportunities. Promote high standards of performance by exhibiting compassion and professionalism at all times and by being responsible for your actions, attitude, and body language. Communicate in a timely and effective manner using notes, e-mails, phone calls, one-on-one interaction, and participation in meetings. Support performance improvement monitoring by collecting data, reporting incidents, identifying patient care problems, and providing performance information to your manager. Assist your manager in meeting departmental budget goals, identifying capital equipment needs, and developing new strategic goals for the department. Follow all departmental and hospital policies. Request clarification and guidance if needed. Keep track of equipment and supplies to ensure your department retains the tools needed to provide patient care and to assure departmental resources are used wisely. Manage your time to clock in and out as scheduled, complete assignments within the scheduled timeframe, and minimize changes in the departmental work schedule. Specific Duties

Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, and consult with RN, MD, and FNP as needed; notify appropriate staff of changes in the patient’s condition. Monitor patient vital signs; demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring and identify arrhythmias. Maintain accurate and continued nursing documentation. Treat patients, visitors, and staff with courtesy and respect. Prepare and review discharge instructions with patients and families. Start IVs; hang, monitor, and discontinue IV fluids when ordered. Ensure adequate stock of supplies and properly functioning equipment; keep work areas clean and neat. Willingly assist other departments with tasks when asked. Assist staff and physicians with procedures. Stay within appropriate scope of practice when administering medications per LPN Illinois laws. Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current Licensed Practical Nurse license in Illinois. Current certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and CPI. If not certified on hire, ACLS, PALS, and CPI are required within 6 months of hire. IV certification or on-the-job training. Participation in annual Infection Prevention education. Follow Infection Prevention guidelines (isolation precautions, proper use of PPE, etc.). Follow all Employee Health protocols (annual TB skin test, annual flu vaccine, annual employee physical for benefits, etc.). Attend all mandatory in-services including departmental meetings. Be a role model and support person for LPNs and CNAs. Participate in monthly process improvement (PI). Basic computer knowledge and ability to communicate effectively in English (written and verbal). Pass pre-employment and random drug screens. Complete annual education courses and annual restraint education. Professional Requirements

Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean. Completes annual education requirements; maintains regulatory requirements and agency standards. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time. Wears identification on duty and uses computerized timekeeping correctly. Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion; attends annual department in-services and meetings. Represents the organization professionally; participates in performance improvement and CQI activities. Complies with organizational policies regarding ethical business practices and communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the hospital and department. Seniorities and Employment
