Position Overview The Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Molecular Genetics at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) is recruiting Assistant, Associate and Full Professors with interests in microbial pathogenesis, structural biology, human or microbial genetics, genomics, biochemistry, and computational biophysics. Faculty are expected to establish and maintain an independent and innovative funded research program and contribute to teaching both graduate and medical students. The department is primarily located in the International Center for Public Health (ICPH) and shares facilities with the Public Health Research Institute (PHRI) and the Center for Emerging Pathogens. New state‑of‑the‑art equipment includes a fully equipped Cryo‑EM lab, BSL3, and other core facilities. Collaborative approaches can be fostered by joint appointments with several focused centers including the Center for Immunity and Inflammation (CII), the Center for Cell Signaling (CCS), the Center for Emerging Pathogens, and the Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine at Rutgers University (iQB@R). Positions will be supported by competitive start‑up packages with exceptional candidates considered for further support as Chancellor Scholars. Rutgers New Jersey Medical School is located in the University Heights section of Newark, New Jersey.
Responsibilities Faculty will be responsible for establishing an innovative and funded research program in microbial pathogenesis or related areas, securing extramural funding, conducting high‑quality research, publishing results, and teaching graduate and medical students. Faculty are expected to contribute to service and departmental activities.
Qualifications
Doctoral degree (MD, PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent)
Outstanding academic credentials and postdoctoral training with a strong publication history in structural biology, microbial pathogenesis, molecular genetics, microbiology, biophysics, or biochemistry.
Demonstrated potential to obtain extramural funding for basic or translational research.
Rank commensurate with experience.
