Early Career Civil Engineer (Philadelphia, PA or Exton, PA)
WSP is initiating a search for an Early Career Civil Engineer to join our Mid-Atlantic Transportation Team in Philadelphia, PA or Exton, PA. The role involves providing technical assistance for design, development, and construction of infrastructure projects in public and private sectors.
Responsibilities
Assist under general supervision with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, etc.
Perform basic professional civil engineering work related to research and inspections of site conditions to determine conformance with rules and standards.
Provide routine engineering functions and entry‑level technical assistance on design requirements, operating strategies for safety and functionality.
Verify site characteristics and assist with engineering, design, and construction issues.
Generate accurate documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field notebooks/logs.
Comply with safety guidelines and site‑specific procedures.
Complete training on assigned tasks.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company resources and conduct.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
0 to 1 year of post‑education relevant experience.
Excellent research skills and analytical mindset.
Familiarity with design/build processes.
Knowledge of civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Self‑leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization.
Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team.
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and tools.
Track record of upholding workplace safety and abiding by health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond a typical workweek.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Engineer in Training Certification.
Familiarity with discipline‑specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS).
Prior internship related to the degree and discipline.
Member or active participant in local professional practice organizations.
