Job Title CALTRANS HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC
Base Pay Range $5,608.00 - $6,723.00
Location Los Angeles County, California (In Office, no telework)
Job Description & Responsibilities
Construct, inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain the heavy equipment fleet in a shop and/or field environment.
Complete records and reports, and use computer equipment for diagnostic and maintenance tasks.
Assist in training and supervising helpers, apprentices, and other employees.
Work safely, use personal protective equipment, and enforce safeguards when handling materials, tools, and facilities.
Travel to field mechanic locations or highway maintenance stations as required; work in inclement weather (cold or heat).
Support shop daily operations; adapt to shifts, travel, rotation and changing work days.
Special Requirements
Valid California Class C driver’s license (CDL) and willingness to provide license details on the application.
Successful completion of drug screening before hiring.
Ability to drive and work while on state duty.
Eligibility & Examination Eligibility is determined by the Caltrans Heavy Equipment Mechanic exam. Candidates without current eligibility must be current on the state examination list to apply.
