CALTRANS HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC

Base Pay Range Salary: $5,608.00 - $6,723.00 per month (subject to exam score and experience).

Job Responsibilities
Work in a shop and/or field environment, constructing, inspecting, diagnosing, repairing and servicing various equipment used in the Department's fleet.
Complete records and reports, and use computer equipment for various tasks.
Assist in instructing or giving direction to helpers, apprentices or other employees.
Possess a valid Class C driver license and maintain proper use of PPE and tools.
Work outside and travel to assist at field mechanic’s location or highway maintenance station as needed.
Operate safely in inclement weather, including severe cold or heat.
May assist with daily shop operations; assignments may be subject to travel, rotation, shift changes, work hours and days.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid Class C driver license and ability to travel to distant locations in inclement weather.
Drug screening requirement.
Compliance with minimum qualifications as stated in the Classification Specification.
For those not currently eligible for State civil service employment, must be on the State Examination list and obtain a Class “C” driver license.
