Paralegal – Estate Planning & Probate
Duties and Responsibilities
Draft and prepare estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance directives
Assist in preparation and filing of probate documents and court filings
Coordinate signing meetings, notary services, and document execution
Review and analyze financial documents, beneficiary designations, and asset information
Assist attorneys with estate and trust administration, including marshaling assets, preparing inventories, and coordinating asset distributions
Communicate with clients, financial institutions, and court personnel in a professional and courteous manner
Maintain and organize client files, both physical and digital, in accordance with firm procedures
Track deadlines and manage calendars related to court filings, trust funding, and other case milestones
Support attorneys with research, correspondence, and preparation of IRS and state tax forms related to estates and trusts (e.g., Form 706, Form 709, etc.)
Perform other administrative and legal support tasks as needed
Qualifications
Minimum 4 years of experience as a paralegal, with at least 2 years in estate planning and/or probate law preferred
Associate's or bachelor's degree; paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program preferred
Strong knowledge of estate planning documents, probate process, and trust administration
Familiarity with court, state, and county filing systems, probate procedures, and relevant legal terminology
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), document management systems, and legal billing software
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently
High degree of discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive client information
Experience with legal software such as Westlaw, GEMS, Interactive Legal Suite, and FlexDraft is helpful, but not a requirement.
