Position Summary
Lead Clinical Billing Specialist at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). Responsible for addressing inquiries from customer service staff, serving as technical resource, training new employees, managing patient accounts, applying third‑party billing practices, approving refunds, performing audits, supervising staff, and handling additional duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
Address all incoming inquiries from customer service staff regarding physician & hospital accounts.
Handle all customer service duties and serve as a technical resource for other staff.
Document all activity in patient accounts, applying third‑party billing practices and regulations.
Approve refunds to patients & insurance companies.
Perform weekly audits on staff adjustments to physician charges.
Scan backup into the system from CI deposits and conduct quality reviews on staff.
Assist with training of new employees and provide guidance and answers needed for all staff.
Supervise staff in the absence of the manager, manage ACD call monitoring, and schedule breaks/lunch/clerical time to ensure coverage.
Process reports for the Payment Posting manager in the manager’s absence for the Physician Billing Director.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, or other field plus three (3) years’ experience in a customer‑service setting, including one (1) year of supervisory experience in an office setting.
OR High School diploma plus seven (7) years of experience in a customer‑service setting, including one year of supervisory experience in an office setting.
Must be familiar with third‑party insurance rules and regulations, Medicaid and other government programs, and facility’s charity and payment plan options.
Preferred: Experience in a high‑volume customer‑service center or hospital revenue‑cycle related setting.
Epic experience preferred.
