Your Role on the Team
The position of Nurse Practitioner PD in the Department of Surgery requires a highly competent, independent yet team-oriented individual who will be immersed in the management and coordination of all inpatient care of surgical patients,
primarily located at a new hospital in Irvine, California . Responsibilities include consults and inpatient care and management, participation in shift sign out/hand-off and rounding with surgery teams, surgical consultations on potential surgical patients, involvement in resuscitations from the ED and ICU, coordination of procedures and follow-up, admission and discharge of patients, triage of phone calls, review of critical labs, initial and daily physical examinations, and exploration of patient health needs. The nurse practitioner will demonstrate advanced medical knowledge, clinical competence, sound judgment, professional communication skills, timely documentation, and responsibility for professional development and competency validation. The nurse practitioner will participate in comprehensive inpatient care, provide multidisciplinary care coordination, treatment, education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians. In addition, Nurse Practitioners with RNFA credentials may assist in the operating room, collaborating closely with surgeons and the surgical team to ensure high-quality patient care throughout surgical procedures. Required
Current, active, unrestricted California Registered Nurse license. Current, active, unrestricted California Nurse Practitioner license. Current, active, unrestricted Furnishing license and DEA registration. Active National Provider Identifier (NPI). NP National Board Certification (Beginning February 2018): Adult Gerontology Acute Care AGACNP-BC or ACNPC-AG. Current BLS and ACLS certification. Two years of experience as Nurse Practitioner to support setting and patient population. Ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Professional Privileges prior to hire. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the program and UCI Health System. Ability to exercise diplomacy and flexibility in interacting with physicians, nurses, other paramedical personnel, administrators, emergency and law enforcement officers. Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job. Skill to clearly communicate medical information to a broad variety of people, both in person and over the telephone. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Writing skills to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes. Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload. Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties. Ability to be trained in the use of specialized medical equipment and procedures. Demonstrates an understanding of and adheres to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies and procedures related to Protected Health Information (PHI) or other sensitive and personal information. Preferred
