Medical Lab Technologist

– performs examination of and test performance on human specimens for diagnosis, treatment, monitoring of patients, or for other providers. Responsible for specimen processing, test performance and results reporting under the supervision of a Medical Technologist.

Responsibilities

Assist the Leads and lab management in projects assigned as appropriate

Communicate critical values and delays to customers in a timely manner

Complete CLIA required annual competencies timely

Actively participate and maintain survey readiness

Perform and review proficiency test samples and results required by accreditation and compliance

Follow proper QC, calibration procedures and corrective actions appropriately

Assist in the orientation and training of new and current lab associates as appropriate

Communicate with lab leadership on concerns affecting lab operations, quality and errors

Monitor pending workload and communicate effectively as needed

Attend staff meetings in person or virtually

Assist with specimen processing to include order entry and/or registration

Assist in evaluation and validation of new instruments or procedures as appropriate

Perform and evaluate validity and quality of results based on technical knowledge, training and following SOPs

Communicate and handle problems with customers in a timely manner

Qualifications

Education requirements:

2‑year Associate’s Degree in a related field from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician Program, or Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or training in an accredited Medical Technology (MT) program.

Work experience requirements:

Clinical experience under a licensed Pathologist. New graduates with clinical rotation training are welcome.

Required licenses / certifications / courses:

Registration eligible by ASCP or equivalent Board of Registry.
